1st birthday tradition

I am always looking for new ideas on traditions to start with our family. It is never to late to start a new tradition or to even find something better to replace an old one. I think traditions are great for the kids (and adults) as it gives them something to rely on, to look forward to and to get excited about.

I thought I would share one we have done from the start with our family.
It is the 1st birthday tradition.
It is simple and easy and has allowed us to capture some great pictures!

When a child turns one in our house we make them their own cake to eat at their birthday party.

So for the party, we (the rest of the family and visitors) all share a nice cake and the one year old gets their own cake to eat all by themselves. They can make as much mess as they like and I normally try to make the cake a little exciting for them with sprinkles or lollies on top.

I have learnt that one year old's really are not that interested in the cake, so I just make a cheap packet mix, and they are only really interested in the icing and decorations. It was great fun when we had to prepare 2 cakes for Sam and Eli.

Sam and Eli about to partake of the 1st birthday cake tradition...they have no idea what they are in for!

Eli was happy with the cake and icing but more interested in his fingers.

Here is Sam after his 1st birthday cake experience. His face says it all!!!
