We are big Cricket fans in our house. In fact, I grew up with my parents owning an Indoor Cricket Centre. Slightly different to the outdoor game but let me tell you I know a thing or two about the sports game of Cricket. Having watched hundreds of games over my years of working in an Indoor Sports Centre and of catching games on television as well. We also, are big fans of Junior Cricket.
Our son Nathan is currently obsessed with Cricket. Simply adores it and wants to play it all the time. As a mother to a Cricket obsessed son, the idea of spending most of my Saturday sitting in the hot sun on a Cricket oval watching Junior Cricket is less than appealing to me. It is so bad that we have not signed him up to join any weekend Cricket team at all because of it. The only time that he has been able to play the game is through sports clubs during school time.
Recently our family was invited to attend a Queensland Cricket blogger event to have the chance to talk about a new program they are launching to make life a little easier for us Mother's and for families. They understand that Saturday is precious time, that we worry about being in the sun so long and that we cannot stand the thought of washing those whites!
We were able to chat to former Australian Captain Alan Border {Nathan is going to love me forever now!} and Chloe Maxwell who is a television personality about the new program being launched to help children get into Junior Cricket more.
Queensland Cricket along with Milo {who has been involved with Australian Cricket for over 20 years}, has an in2CRICKET program aimed at children ages from 5-10 years and gives kids the opportunity to kick start their Cricket skills. They teach them skills such as batting, bowling, catching, throwing, social skills and most importantly how to have fun whilst playing sport.
The new program format means that it runs for one hour and is a 6-12 week program. Allowing us Mother's to reclaim back our weekends but still fit in the kids sports that are scheduled at different times during the week.
Each child receives a Cricket Starter pack which contains:
* A backpack
* A lightweight cricket bat
* A soft rubber ball
* A SPF 30+ Cricket T-shirt
*A sun smart bucket hat
* Some Milo treats and more!
Queensland Cricket also has a stepping stone program to club cricket for 9-11 year olds with the MILO T20BLAST program. They are also hoping that the new program will encourage more girls to get into Cricket and as you can see from the pictures above my girls loved it!My kids were a little excited to come home from the event with a backpack full of gifts. We are so set for backyard cricket in our house and just in time for Summer. Girls verses boys I am thinking!!
We had to have a little fun with large Cricket bat and ball. Watch out Dad!
Nathan was very excited to have Alan Border bowl a few balls to him.
He had a constant smile on his face afterwards.
They also have a new website Aussie Cricket Crew that I totally recommend checking out!
Thanks to Brand Meets Blog for being able to attend the event and Hannah for such awesome pictures!

We are very fortunate to have a dedicated parenting team in our neighbourhood who have ensured that boys and girls from all around the district have a great start to their cricket loving lives.
ReplyDeleteThe Littlest Gift has been playing for several years now and Friday afternoons are spent enjoying watching him have lots of fun with the other kids.
This week he opened his 'savings' piggy bank and purchased his first 'big' bat, and has enjoyed lots of time on the tennis court with this Dad teaching him the intricacies of batting and bowling [lucky to have an enclosed space so that he's not running all over the yard chasing down tennis balls].
Ah happy days!
How awesome Felicity, loved that he saved up to get a Cricket bat and the tennis court sounds like an ideal place to play! N x
