'Should' is a word that drives me crazy.
I find myself saying it in my mind all day.
I should be a better mother, I should eat healthier...etc.
It is a word that makes me feel guilty.
So I took a run on the treadmill, thought about it, got off and recorded this vlog.
I have running hair, I am a bit of a mess but I hope you can with connect what I am saying.
I am working on living a should free life.
Are you?
This year I need to learn how to be better at recording vlogs.
This could possible be the worst one I have recorded to date, quality wise!
You can check out my other two vlogs here:
Anyway, hope you enjoy it xx

Should is one of the worst words in the English language. I attended a psychological wellbeing seminar at my work and they talked about the tyranny of the shoulds there. It's something I catch myself doing quite often.
ReplyDeleteI've written about the tyranny of the shoulds before here: http://www.tamsinhowse.com/blog/2011/09/tuesday-tips-tyranny-of-the-shoulds/
Thanks for sharing! With Seven children it seems that there is never enough time in the day to do all you wish to do for everyone.
ReplyDeleteTrust in the things you do, that if You and your household 'Love God with all of there heart, soul and mind ~ and love others as themselves' he will be with you. Secondly, put on your Armour everyday! You can find it in Ephesians 6:13 -18. God loves you, keep on persevering. Love always Maryanne xxx
Thankyou for this. I watched your video then got the pram out and went for a walk with my daughter. Its a beautiful sunny day and we both got out and enjoyed the sunshine. My life is one 'should' after another and I feel like I drown in that word. You inspired me today. ♥
ReplyDeleteThanks for your insights and feedback ladies xx
ReplyDeleteHoping you had a should free day :)
Oh Naomi, I had been waiting for this. I completely *get* it. I have the daily struggle myself. Not just the "I should have" but also the "I could have" and "I would" when reflecting on the past and how I might have approached things differently. It's an incredibly powerful world in our society which has taken on such a negative currency in recent years. It's time for us to reclaim 'should' as an ordinary word, devoid of all that unpleasant context. J x
ReplyDeleteHi Naomi... just wishing you a "S" Free Tuesday! Keep being beautiful to YOU!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this! Should is a word I have... disliked for a long time, but I haven't known how to get around it until now. I'd like to share this on my blog if that would be ok with you. xo
ReplyDeleteI agree Naomi. A friend of mine used to point out how much I used the word, so now I replace it with 'could'. "I should do the housework" or "I could do the housework". Could has much less of a judgemental connotation.
ReplyDeleteGood vlog, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Im so pleased you have reposted this, I needed to hear this today.
ReplyDeletethanks so much for sharing xx
I love your vlogs Naomi, and I think you should, I mean could post more vlogs, and I would be very happy;)
