skype grandparenting

Our family sadly, lives miles and miles away from all other family members. It is just us here in Queensland and we really miss being able to see them on a regular basis. One of the ways we love to keep in touch with other family members is to Skype them.

The technology we have available today to allow this to happen is wonderful and we love that we can bring Grandma right into our lounge room. The children love that they can hear her voice, keep updated on what she looks like (she is one good looking Grandma!) and can receive words of wisdom from her on things that are happening in their lives.

We also love to use Skype to have fun cousin sessions and have delighted to see our children singing and dancing for younger cousins, getting excited and sharing the joy that our other families members are experiencing and also simply chatting about the everyday routine that they follow.

I love that it allows our family to stay connected and to help foster relationships even though we have such a great distance between us. It is also fun to use and it even feels like we have family in our home even though they are so far away.

Do you ever use Skype? How do you stay in contact with family?

  1. Skype is wonderful for staying in touch! With older offspring who are travelling/living overseas, we can see that they look happy and healthy and that puts my mind at rest :-) . And when DH and I went o/s, I missed our pets so whichever DD was 'minding the house' at that time, would hold them up to the webcam, lol!

    1. That would be great when you have children travelling overseas! Never thought of that. Love the pet idea. I am sure a lot of people feel the same way :)

  2. We also have grandparents who live far away: one in Fiji and the other in New Zealand. We Skype usually once per week. My boys are really lucky to have a great relationship with their grandparents. I'm thankful for that.

  3. Skype is amazing! I use it to keep in touch with my friends who live in the USA, Canada, France and Germany. With Skype, they don't seem so far away.
